How to Crimp Hose Fittings How to Crimp Hose Fittings

What You'll Need
Crimping tool
Tape measure
Saw

The process of connecting hose fittings during the installation of HVAC parts will often require the ends of the hose fittings to be crimped. Being aware of how to undertake this process correctly will ensure that the result of the project is as desired.

Step 1 – Measure and Cut

Start by measuring the hose to the length required, and cut it so that the edge is a blunt one; this will ensure that the hose fittings can be installed properly, without suffering any gaps.

Step 2 – Crimp Fittings

You will often find it awkward to crimp the hose fittings once they have been installed, which will make it prudent to complete this process first. Some tools require you to insert part of it in the recess to complete the crimping. Others have a lever that must be operated once the fitting has been placed in the tool. Work the crimper around the circumference until the entire section is sufficiently treated.

Step 3 – Installation

After you complete the crimping process, you will then be in a position to fit the hose fittings onto the relevant components before installation.
