How to Cut Aluminum Gutters

What You'll Need
Tape measure
Pattern shears
Fine tooth file
Carpenters pencil
Combination square

When installing aluminum gutters, you may have to cut them to cut them to the proper size for your house. The good news is that it's an easy job to do.

Step 1 – Prepare

Lay the aluminum gutter flat and mark the part that needs to be cut. You will need to align the blade with your combination square to extend the cut mark. Run your carpenter’s pencil along the side of the square blade. You will then need to transfer the line down each side.

Step 2 – Cut

With your pattern shears you will start at the flange and cut along the marked line. You will go inward and move towards the opening of your gutter. Do this until you are on the other side of the gutter. Gently bend the gutter to create more room as you cut.

Step 3 – Remove Sharp Edges

Get out the fine tooth file so that you can do away with any sharp edges that may have been left behind by your pattern shear. Once all sharp edges are removed you are finished with cutting.
