Mini blinds can help to reduce direct sunlight, especially in rooms that have windows facing the sun. Sometimes we may purchase these blinds in a standard color without giving much thought to the color scheme of the room where they will be used. However, some people prefer to try and adapt the color according to the colors used in a particular room. This can be done by dying them.

Note that aluminum or metallic or wooden mini blinds will not take a dye, therefore the dying technique is most suitable for mini blinds made of some type of fabric, such as cotton or polyester or perhaps vinyl. It is always wise to test a small, inconspicuous area to determine if the blinds will take and hold the dye.

Choose the Color and Purchase the Fabric Dye

Decide on the color you will be using. You can either use the main color of the room’s color scheme or else a lighter shade if the curtains feature a second color. If you would like to achieve more darkness you should choose a dark-colored dye that can help you attain this.

Mix the Dye With Water

Follow the instructions to mix the dye with the correct amount of water in the plastic tub. The temperature of the water should also be determined according to what the instructions on the dye suggest in order to ensure a good mixture for better results.

Unfix the Blinds and Attach the Tape Where Necessary

Remove the blinds from the window and stick tape on the parts which you do not want to dye, mainly the strings, and any wooden parts.

Immerse the Blinds in the Dye

Now you can immerse the blinds into the plastic tub filled with the dye. Leave it the dye for the required amount of time to let the dye absorb well and stick properly to the required parts of the blinds. It is best to follow the instructions provided with the dye or to take a suggestion from a professional, such as the manufacturer or seller.

Remove and Leave to Dry

Once you see that the dye has distributed itself well onto the blinds, remove them from the tub and place gently onto the plastic sheet. Leave them there to dry thoroughly.

Re-install the Blinds

Re-install the blinds in the particular window and enjoy the result of the change in the lighting atmosphere in the room.

Dying your mini blinds is easy to do and not terribly time-consuming. The final results can be very satisfying especially if you wish to match all your furnishings and fixtures in the room. The color used to dye the blinds will give a nice atmosphere to the room, particularly when the sun shines through them.
