If you’re looking for electric fireplace logs, you’ll want to find the best ones for your needs.
Here are some things to consider when looking for the best logs for your situation.
Type of Flame
There are different levels of “reality” in the flames for electric fireplace logs. Most use some kind of a light bulb to create a glow. Others add a crackling sound for a more realistic auditory experience, and others use a variety of fans and lights to create a more realistic flame illusion. Look at several in action before you decide.
You’ll want to consider how much of the fake log structure will be visible in the firebox before you choose a particular model.
If you have a fireplace in the center of two rooms so that the logs will be seen both from the back and the front, or if you have a firebox that is like a surround stage, where it can be seen from three sides, you’ll then need a flame that rises from the center, not from obvious protrusions on the back or sides of the logs.
If you have vented logs, you’ll need some sort of draft through a flue or damper. If they are unvented, the logs will likely look less realistic, but are more efficient, as all the heat goes into the room.
