Coffee tables require care, and so it is important to finish  coffee table before it is used. Finishing a coffee table is very important because it not only protects the wood but also gives it a glitter. The best way to coat coffee tables is by applying epoxy resin, which is high gloss, durable, and can easily be poured on. This not only strengthens the wood surface but also protects it from spills and stains. So far the best way to give tables complete finish is by epoxy resin, so we will be discussing how to do that.

Step1: Cleaning up the Table Top

It is necessary before working on the table to ensure it is properly cleaned. A damp rag is the first step towards this cleaning process. If the piece of furniture is carved, then extra care should be taken to make the carving clean. Using a paint brush for this purpose saves a lot of time. It is very important to properly clean the tabletop before coating it with epoxy resin for finish because the resin will make dirt stick to the table. Sometimes, it so happens that there are dry stains on the table top. Spill stains and debris stuck in the carving can be dealt with by using a dampened toothbrush. This will scrape out all the dirt, leaving the carving clean. Dampen a soft flannel rag and clean the surface properly. Water left on wood for longer periods of time can cause the wood to attain a whitish color. This can be avoided by quickly drying the table while working.

Step 2: Drying the Table

The table needs to be left out in the sun for some time so that the wood becomes dry. No coating will give a fine finish on a wet surface. While drying, it is a good idea to keep the piece of furniture rotating and changing its sides.

Step 3: Making Table Boundaries

Solution tape is applied at the corners of the tabletop. The tape has to be applied in four layers to ensure a strong boundary. The sides have to be sealed properly because they serve as a hindrance for epoxy resin.

Step 4: Preparing Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is easily available at wood finish showrooms and plastic stores. It usually comes in powder form with a mixture to form a clear liquid, thick in density. The instruction manual can guide you in mixing the resin. Every chemical that turns solid upon losing heat or drying is usually supplied in powder form. This ensures the product quality and efficiency when in use. It is very important to make sure the crystals are well dissolved. Preparing epoxy resin is important in getting a smoother finish coat.

Step 5: Pouring Epoxy Resin

The solution of epoxy resin should be slowly and steadily poured on the table surface. This is done in circular movement. The slow swift pouring makes sure a coat of equal thickness is applied. After the table is coated, tilt it from side to side so it gets equally coated. The final step is leaving it out to dry.
