How to Fix a Jammed Polyurethane Foam Gun
A polyurethane foam gun can sometimes get jammed or stuck. While it can be expensive to have to replace your gun after every jam it may sometimes be necessary. There are however some tricks that can help you to be able to get your gun back in working order without replacement.
Step 1 – Recognize the Problem
The first thing that you will have to do is be able to recognize the problem. Your gun will not work at all. You should be able to look into the barrel of the gun and see the obstruction. There are a few things that may have caused this. One of the most common problems is leaving your insulation can attached to it for a long period of time. Always be sure to rinse out your gun after each use to prevent something like this from happening.
Step 2 – Soaking
Once you have recognized what the problem is you will have a few options on what it is that you will be able to do. Acetone works well for dissolving the foam itself. You can begin by soaking the gun in acetone and seeing if that does the trick. If that does not do the trick then you may need to completely disassemble the gun and soak it in solvent.
Step 3 – Take Apart Gun
You may need to completely take the gun apart and soak each part of it in solvent or acetone. If this does not work then it may be a good idea for you to take the gun apart and get a scraper. You will need to scrape out all of the residue that is blocking the gun itself. It is always a good idea to wear gloves whenever you are working with acetone or solvent. This will help to keep your skin protected.
Step 4 – When to Get a New Gun
If none of this works then you may need to end up getting a new gun. There is only so much that you will be able to do before you will need to give up on that gun and get a new one. There are a lot of things that you can do that can help to prevent this from happening to your future gun.
Step 5 – Take Care of Your Gun
You will need to be sure to take good care of your polyurethane gun to make sure that it can last you for a long time. Try not to overload it when you use it and always take care to rinse it. You should at least rinse the gun after each heavy use if not after each use period. You will find that there is a lot to be said for going to distance to take care of your gun regularly so that you can keep it around for a lot longer. You will save so much money in the long run by taking care of your gun now.
