How to Fix Loose Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding is very durable, however storms and accidents can all take their toll on the interlocking pieces of siding. This can cause damage which will loosen the aluminum siding sheets and prevent them from locking together properly. Loose aluminum siding simply isn't protecting your house as well as it should be which is why you must consider methods of fixing it.

Siding panels are interlocking and this makes it sound difficult to deal with. However, with the right tools and plenty of patience, you will be able to fix any damaged siding panels and lock them back into place.

Repairing aluminum siding is very easy as long as you have the right tools and pieces of equipment available. This project should be easily completed before the end of the day which will make it possible to secure your property for the night.

Step 1 - Buying a Siding Unlock Tool

The first thing that you will need to do is purchase a siding unlock tool, these are very simple tools which are used to unlock the pieces of siding and lift them out from the wall. These can be found at any home improvement store and are very useful. Everybody needs one of these when working with siding as it's much better than using a screwdriver. If you use a screwdriver to do this then you stand a good chance of scratching and damaging the siding. Aluminum siding is very durable but it is easily scratched.

Step 2 - Locating the Siding

Now you need to locate the piece of siding which is loose. If there are any loose pieces of aluminum siding on your house then these will need to be removed.

Step 3 - Removing the Loose Siding

The loose siding panels need to be removed by using the siding unlock tool. The hook simply needs to be placed under the edge of aluminum siding and then used to lift it out. Pull the siding unlock tool down and it should bring the bottom of the siding panel come out. This will cause the loose panel to spring out.

Step 4 - Reconnecting the Panel

If the siding panel is only slightly loose then you can push the siding panel up firmly in order to reconnect it to the top piece. However, if you need to remove it then you will need to carefully fetch it out through the gap. Removing it will also make it possible to replace the siding with a new piece. Once you have done this the bottom lip can be slid back into place.

Check all the other siding panels to ensure that they are all connected properly. If any of these are lose or damaged then they can also be removed and replaced. Continue over the whole wall of your house until you have repaired all of the siding panels and all of them fit properly into the others.
