How to Get a Great Wood Veneer Finish
A wood veneer finish on your furniture provides you with the ability to match your furniture. However wood veneer is sensitive and easily susceptible to damage. Here are a few steps you can follow when adding a veneer finish for it to turn out great.
Step #1: Clean Surface of Wood Veneer
Make sure that the wood on your furniture is free of oils and debris. You can do this by applying a trisodium phosphate solution to the wood before gluing the wood veneer.
Step #2: Remove Previous Layer
Before applying veneer finish, always make sure any previous finish has been removed first. Use paint stripper and scrape off the veneer finish or 150-grit sandpaper to sand the veneer finish.
Step #3: Apply Two Coats
Before applying the second coat of veneer finish, always make sure your first finish has dried completely. Sand the first coat using 220-grit sandpaper. Wood veneer is fragile so use care when sanding. When you apply the second coat, make sure it is lighter than the first coat. Let the second coat dry completely before using furniture.
With a little care and planning, you can apply a wonderful veneer finish to all of your wood furniture.
