Dishwashing liquid

If you've recently spilled latex paint onto one of your home's wood surfaces, you may be wondering how to go about removing it. If so, you'll be pleased the know that latex paint can be removed from wood in a timely and stress-free fashion. Read on to learn the basics of removing latex paint.

Step 1 - Scrub the Stains with Dishwashing Liquid

If it is relatively fresh, you should be able to expel a latex paint stain with nothing more than warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid. Soak a sponge in this mixture and proceed to give the stained area a thorough scrubbing. If a sponge is unavailable, a nylon scrub brush should also suit your purposes. Keep in mind this method typically only works for latex paint stains that are between one and three hours old.

Step 2 - Sand the Stains

For latex paint stains that have had ample time to dry, you will need to incorporate the aid of a sanding sponge. Use the sponge to gently sand any stains off of your wood surface. In some cases, a putty knife will work just as well. Alternatively, you can also use a putty knife in conjunction will a sanding sponge, particularly if you're dealing with multiple stains. Once the stains have been successfully sanded away, you may want to follow up with a traditional cleaning.
