How to Get Rid of Snakes in Your Yard How to Get Rid of Snakes in Your Yard
Although they can help keep rodents and other pests away from your home, you might want to get rid of snakes hiding in your yard.
Snakes may hide out in many inviting places in your yard. Piles of wood, yard debris, compost or rubbish are prime nesting places, as are tall grasses and overgrown gardens. Keep grass mowed and avoid making piles so as not give snakes a place to hide.
An infestation of mice, rats or roaches will also attract snakes. Once you get rid of the pests, the snakes will not have a readily available food supply near your house. Seal and secure any small holes around the foundation of your house where snakes could gain entry.
In the warm months, deter snakes with marigolds. Not only will brightly colored marigolds help keep slugs out of your garden, but they are a snake repellant as well.
If you come across a rattlesnake or other poisonous snake, call animal control or pest control to handle it. Don’t try to remove a venemous species yourself.
