How to Get Wood Glue Out of Clothing How to Get Wood Glue Out of Clothing

What You'll Need
Butter knife
Washcloth
Towel
Iron
White wine vinegar
Ammonia

If you've recently spilled wood glue on an article of clothing, you may be wondering how to clean it off. With a few easy-to-find tools, you can have your clothing wood glue-free in no time.

Step 1 - Prep Your Clothing

Begin the wood glue removal process by scraping away any loose glue with the flat edge of a butter knife. You will now need to fill your sink with steaming hot water, then proceed to soak the article of clothing for 5 to 10 minutes. Once the clothing has been sufficiently soaked, pull it out and proceed to once again scrape away any loosened pieces of glue with the flat edge of a butter knife.

Step 2 - Apply Vinegar and Ammonia

You will now need to soak a washcloth in white wine vinegar and gently swab it onto any remaining glue deposits. Once the vinegar has been applied, allow it to set in for 10 to 15 minutes, then proceed to scrape off any softened glue.

If there are any remaining glue deposits, repeat step 2 using ammonia in place of white wine vinegar.

Step 3 - Iron Your Clothing

If ammonia fails to successfully purge the glue from your clothing, position a clean towel over the stained area of clothing and proceed to iron it. Once the clothing has been ironed, scrape away any glue softened by the heat of the iron.
