How to Hang Canopy Bed Drapes How to Hang Canopy Bed Drapes
Canopy bed drapes provide a focal point for a room. Using window panel curtains in sheer, light fabrics give your room a light and airy feeling. While heavier, darker color curtain panels provide a bold look. Hanging canopy bed drapes requires no sewing and is a great way to dress up your canopy bed.
Step 1 - Remove the Rails
Using your step ladder, locate the rails that are attached to the inside of the canopy bed frame. Use the screwdriver or the hex key to remove the rail; one end at a time, one rail at a time. Be sure to only work with and complete one rail at a time.
Step 2 - Prepare the Fabric
Use your iron and ironing board or a steam iron and iron the canopy bed drapes so that they lay straight and neat when they are hung. When shopping for window panels, measure the width of the rail as well as the length from rail to floor. Make sure that the rod pocket is wide enough to accomodate your bed rail. If it isn't, consider hanging it using clip-on shower curtain rings.
Step 3 - Hang the Canopy Bed Drapes
Slide one of the window panel curtains onto the canopy bed rail and slide all the way to the end. Slide the second curtain on, leaving the bulk of it near the open end.
Step 4 - Reattach the Canopy Bed Rails
Using your step ladder and screwdriver or hex key, reattach the rail to the canopy bed. Once you have reattaced the rail, move on to the next side and repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the remaining 3 sides.
Step 5 - Finishing the Canopy Bed Drapes
If you have chosen sheer, translucent drapes for your canopy bed, consider leaving them hanging around the bed without using tie backs. You can add additional panels to create a fuller look depending on the size of the bed. Gather 2 curtain panels per bed post (or more if you have added more panels) and use the tie back at the half way point on the bed post. Adjust the gathers at the top and leave space in the middle of the rail for openess.
Step 6 - Add Some Decorative Touches
Once you have hung your canopy bed drapes and have them set the way you like them, consider adding some decorative touches to your canopy bed. You can use items such as floral garland or lights. Take a length of garland and loosely wrap it along the canopy bed rail. Once you have that done, add a string of white lights to add a soft glow and create an additional focal point of the room. If you are using this in a child's room, remember to use flame resistant lights.
