How to Hold a Glazing Tool How to Hold a Glazing Tool

What You'll Need
Linseed Oil
Glazing Tool
Safety Gloves

When you are glazing your window, you may find it useful to have a glazing tool handy. These tools come in a range of shapes and sizes, and you may find ones which look more like a machine than a hand tool and others which can be used to add the glazing points to the edge of your window. When you are using the glazing tool, you may find yourself wondering what the best way to hold it is in order to complete the glazing as efficiently as possible.

Step 1 - Preparation

Firstly, you should put one some safety gloves. This will protect you against the sharp edge of the tool and will also prevent your fingers from becoming tired when you start to work the tool. Before you use the tool, consider placing the edge of the tool into some linseed oil. This will keep it moving smoothly over the putty and glass of the window.

Step 2 - Holding the Tool

Take the glazing tool in your right hand, placing your fingers around the internal handle. This will allow you to hold the glazing tool more firmly in place. You should hold the tool against the window at a slight angle so that you get a smooth, straight cut.
