How to Identify You Have a Mole Problem

A mole problem can cause unsightly ridges in your yard and may make it difficult to walk around. It can be difficult to determine whether your problem is caused by a mole or another type of rodent.

Step 1 – Look for Mole Holes or Mounds

A mole hole looks like a volcano and has a hole in the center. Sometimes mounds don’t have holes, because they usually burrow right under the surface of the soil.

Step 2 - Look at the Ridges

Gophers eat more vegetation, while moles eat grubs and roots. Gophers come up out of the soil more often and cover their holes. If you have long tunnels throughout your yard, they may be from moles.

Step 3 – Try to Spot a Mole

While it’s difficult, if you keep an eye out, you may be able to spot a mole in your yard. Once you see a mole, you can begin to take the necessary steps to get rid of moles.

Step 4 – Look for Photos

Compare photos of mole holes and tunnels online to those in your yard. If you’re lucky enough to spot a mole, compare what you saw to pictures of moles online.
