How to Install a Door Pull Handle on a Mirrored Door

The beauty of a mirrored door is incomparable to any wooden or steel door, and a nice door pull handle can make all the difference in the aesthetics of the door. A door pull handle comes in various styles, materials, and colors for you to choose from. A door pull handle can be easily installed at home in no time. Only very basic tools are used. However, installation of a door pull handle on a mirrored door requires careful precision. You can successfully do it yourself by following the simple instructions given below.

Step 1 - Make the right choice

The first step would be to go to your nearest hardware store and choose from the vast variety of door pull handles. Do not forget to match the style and color of the door pull handle with the decor of the room to add further elegance.

Step 2 - Clean door

Prior to installing the door pull handle, make sure the door is clean. The mirror can be cleaned with any glass cleaner, sponge, or clean damp cloth. To protect your floor during the installation, spread a cloth on the floor. Also, wear a pair of safety gloves to protect your hands.

Step 3 - Determine how to install

Read the manual with the door pull handle and the instructions given to install the handle on the mirrored door. Requirements for installation vary based on the style and material of handles. Some may require drilling while others could be self-sticking or installed with a good quality adhesive. You will also need to establish whether the pull handle needs to be installed through the door or on the surface of the door. If you can see screw holes on the plate around the handle, then that is a clear indication of the handle to be installed on the surface and vice versa.

Step 4 - Mark the installation area

Measure the length of the door carefully using a tape measure. Then decide where you wish to install the pull handle. Put some pieces of masking tape over the area where the handle is to be installed and mark with a pencil precisely where you want the handle to be to avoid any errors.

Step 5 - Drill or use adhesive

If the installation requires drilling, mark the location of the 2 or 4 holes onto the masking tape. Make sure you choose a quality glass drill bit of a size slightly greater than the diameter of the screws to avoid any friction and possibly breaking the mirror while screwing them in. Take all due protective measures and wear protective eyewear while drilling, to protect eyes from hazardous mirror dust. When drilling the holes through the mirror itself, stop drilling as soon as you feel the drill going through the glass. Once the mirror is drilled, you can then replace the glass bit with an ordinary spiral bit smaller than the screw, and this time finish drilling that same hole through the wood part for a pilot hole. You can now screw-in the handle, not overly tight but snug.

If the door pull handle needs to be installed using adhesives, make sure there is enough ventilation in the room to remove chemical fumes of the adhesive. Give adequate time for the adhesive to set.
