How to Install a Dryer Vent Flap
Installing a dryer vent flap is not difficult if you already have the hole in the wall to work with. This tutorial will walk you through the steps needed to complete this simple project.
Step 1 - Shop
You can purchase a dryer vent flap from any hardware store but you will need to make sure of the size you need. Standard size is 4 inches in diameter.
Step 2 - Make the Hole for the Vent
If your home does not already have a vent hole for this application you will need to drill one. From inside the house where you want the vent to be, drill a hole all the way through the house using the 4-inch hole bit. You will want to make sure not to drill the hole near a wall stud. You may also have to drill from the outside of the house to go all the way through. A dryer vent flap needs to lead to the outside. Make the hole as close to the floor as possible to avoid any wiring inside of the walls.
Step 3 - Install
From the outside of your home locate the hole you need to put the dryer vent flap into and put it into the hole. Then, using the screwdriver, affix it into place.
Step 4 - Dryer Hose
Once the dryer vent flap is installed, attach the dryer hose to it from the inside of the house.
