Hollow doors, also called hollow-core doors, can present a challenge if you want to attach a hook. Many do-it-yourselfers encounter this problem when they are trying to hang a robe or towel rack on a hollow bathroom door. Without the proper materials, it can be very difficult to hang anything on a hollow door. In fact, many times the door can be destroyed by a hook. The key to hanging a hook on a hollow door is a hollow-core door anchor. Hollow-core door anchors can be found at your local home improvement store.
Hollow-core door anchors are made specifically for attaching items to hollow doors. Much like there are special tools to hang hooks on drywall, this anchor adds support so that the door doesn’t become damaged.
It is easy to hang a small robe or towel hook using a hollow-core door anchor.
Step 1 - Drill Holes
Drill pilot holes into the door. Make sure that you measure so that you don’t drill through the door.
Step 2 - Insert Anchor
Lightly tap the anchor into the pilot hole with a hammer.
Step 3 - Attach the Hook
Screw the hook in place using a drill.
By following these easy steps, you can install a hook on a hallow-core door.
