A great project for homeowners to tackle is how to install drywall corner beads. If you ever plan on redecorating an entire room, drywall installation is a skill that you need to master beforehand. A room is never complete without drywall and its corner beads. We take for granted drywall corner beads whenever we walk into a room but it’s just because we don’t understand the amount of work that went into installing that corner bead. These simple structures will add a touch of elegance to any room.
Cut the Drywall Corner Bead
One thing that you must consider when it comes to installing a drywall corner bead is that you can’t have more than one length for any given wall. Trying to piece corner beads together will just make your room look unfinished as opposed to seamless. So make sure that you go for longer pieces and simply cut off the ends.
When it comes to installing corner beads, the most crucial part is getting the measurements right and having the corner bead fit snugly. You will need a tape measure to determine the exact length of your wall. Once you have that, cut off the excess corner bead with the use of a pair of sharp scissors for that clean edge. Once you have your cut-out corner bead, try fitting it in the wall with the help of tacks or pins. Make sure that the corner bead fits perfectly forming right angles with the walls.
You have to make sure that the drywall corner bead fits perfectly before installing it permanently or else the flaws will always be visible in the room. Make reparations if you see anything wrong. Take your time and make sure that everything is to your satisfaction before moving on.
Step 2 – Apply the Mud
The mud will come with your purchased corner bead. If not, don’t forget to get one when you buy the corner bead. Applying the mud is just like frosting a cake or applying icing to a cupcake. The mud must be spread smoothly to your drywall corner bead for it to adhere properly. To do this, scoop some mud into the back of your drywall corner bead with the help of a flat putty knife. Once you the mud on, you’ll want to slather it all over the corner bead. Do not be too generous with the mud or else it will squeeze off the wall when you install the drywall. At the same time, you want enough mud to make sure that the drywall is perfectly attached to the wall.
Install the Drywall Corner Bead to the Wall
With the help of the mud, you may attach the drywall corner bead to the wall. Apply just enough force to make the corner bead attach firmly to the wall. Wait for the corner bead to dry.
Paint the Drywall Corner Bead
Once it dries, you may then paint the corner bead to help it blend in with the room.
