Magnetic cabinet catches are mainly used for their durability and resistance. They prevent cabinet doors and slides from swinging open and keep children out. Follow the easy instructions below to install magnetic catches in your cabinet.
Step 1 - Mark the Correct Spot
First, mark the spot in the cabinet where you will install the catch. Mark the point opposite either the top or bottom hinge.
Step 2 - Insert Screws
Place the magnetic side of the cabinet catch in the center of the marks, whether the catch is attached opposite the upper or lower hinge. Hold the catch with one hand and insert a cross head screw into it with the other hand. Use a power drill on a low torque setting to carefully tighten the retaining screws on the inside of the wooden cabinet. This will prevent wood stripping off it.
Step 3 - Prevent Swinging
Now place the non-magnetic side of the cabinet catch at the center of the spot you made. Insert the screw into the catch, and use the power drill to fasten it inside the cabinet door. Make sure that both pieces of the magnetic catch are aligned correctly.
Open and close the door a few times to ensure that there is resistance to the door being opened. If you feel the resistance, the magnetic catch has been properly installed. Repeat this entire process for each door.
