How to Install Metal Ceiling Paneling How to Install Metal Ceiling Paneling
Metal ceiling paneling offers an effective method to add character to bare ceilings. They are available in a range of colors and patterns and can blend in with traditional and modern designs.
Step 1 - Calculate the Number of Panels Needed
Using the measuring tape, measure the length and width of your ceiling, and from these measurements work out how many ceiling panels will be needed to cover the ceiling.
Step 2 - Prepare the Base
Locate the ceiling joists, as this is where the plywood frame will attach to the ceiling. Drill exploratory holes until you locate a joist. Then using the chalk mark out where the joists are knowing they will be 16 inches apart from the first one. Once this is done, cover the ceiling in plywood, attaching it to the ceiling with the decking screws. If you do not have a friend to help, make a T-brace from the 2 x 4 to keep the plywood in position while you do this.
Step 3 - Fix the Metal Ceiling Panels
Use a pencil to draw the layout for the panels on the plywood. Using this as a guide, if you need to trim the panels use the tin snips, the marker and the straight edge to do so. When you are ready, start from the corner using a nail gun to nail the panels into the plywood. Leave one side of each panel unfastened so you can tuck the other one underneath. Continue until you cover the whole ceiling.
Step 4 - Finish with Sealing the Seams
Seal the seams with caulk, and put moldings into the corners for the perfect finish.
