How to Install Shelves in Your Tile Shower

What You'll Need

You will find that it is difficult to enjoy the beauty of your shower tile when you have a lot of things cluttering your bathtub and shower. Shelves are the best way to make up for this clutter. Installing shelves will allow you to keep your shower organized and clean. You will not have to worry about searching for the soap with shampoo in your eyes.

Step 1 - Prepare

Determine how many shelves you need. The number of shelves depends on the size of your shower and how much you keep there. 3 or 4 is usually enough.

Step 2 - Tile

You will need to get the right amount of tile for your shelves. Then use a tile saw to cut the pieces from corner to corner diagonally. If you do not have a tile saw, then rent one from your local home improvement store. Doing so is usually recommended, as you probably will not need it again and they are quite costly.

Step 3 - Height

The height of your shelves is very important. Ensure that the shelves are at a comfortable height. You must also space them properly. Leave enough space for shampoo bottles and face wash tubes.

Step 4 - Grout

Remove all of the grout where you will have the shelves. You can easily do so with a chisel and a hammer. Work gently to avoid breaking the tile.

Step 5 - Set-Up the Shelves

Once the grout is gone, you must put your shelves place. The tiles will be supported by the tiles which surround them. New grout is needed so that you can fill the spaces between each of the tiles so that you can make the joints as strong as possible.
