How to Install Solar Vacuum Tubes How to Install Solar Vacuum Tubes
Solar vacuum tubes can be very easy to install as long as you have the proper tools and know how. You will find that doing the job yourself will save you a lot of money as getting the tubes installed can end up being really expensive.
Step 1 – Location
The first thing that you will need to do is get the proper location of the solar tubes. You will want to make sure that they will be able to get plenty of light so that they will be able to do their job. You will also need to look at the space in the attic above the desired location. Look around to get a good feel of where the wiring and the joists are. You will need to be sure that there are going to be as few obstacles as possible whenever you are installing the tubes.
Step 2 – Mark Area
With a nail, you will need to get the position of your ceiling fixture marked from the inside. The end of the nail will be inside of the attic space. It will show you where it is that you will be installing the fixture. You will need to do the same thing with the roof. In order to do this you will need to get a plumb bob suspended from the ceiling in the attic. Do so where it will be aligned with the nail that is in the ceiling. From there, you will get a nail that is long enough to go through both the roof as well as the shingles. Drive the nail into the desired location.
Step 3 – Cut Ceiling
It is now time to get a hole cut into your ceiling. In order to do this, you will need to get the template that you got with the solar vacuum tube. This template will tell you what the diameter should be of the hole that you make. If there is no template then you will simply need to get the diameter yourself. In order to do this you will need to get out your compass and use the nail as the middle. Draw a circle using the compass for the ceiling fixture. From there you will cut through the ceiling using your drywall saw. Once you have cut a hole in the ceiling you will need to repeat the same steps with the roof.
Step 4 – Flashing
Once you have the holes cut you will then need to get the flashing added. Roofing tar will be necessary so that the flashing will stick. From there, you are ready to install the tubes. Make sure that you use caution in not handling the inside of the tube. You will then need to measure the area so that you will know how large the tubes will need to be. Cut them down if necessary.
