How to Install Subflooring How to Install Subflooring

What You'll Need
Measuring tape
Subfloor panels
Hammer
Wood block
Chalk
Strapping

When installing ceramic tiles many professional tile layers recommend installing a subfloor in advance. This will not only improve the foundation for the tiles, but also reduce the incidence of problems with the tiles. Here is a basic overview on how to install subflooring.

Step 1: Measuring

Measure the area of the room. Based on its dimensions you can determine how many panels you shall be needing to cover it up. It is helpful to mark out lines with a chalk from the point where you will start installing the panels. This will not only help you but also improve the neatness of your work and reduce mistakes.

Step 2: Install Strapping

Align strapping along the edges. It is important to provide a little room so that it can expand if necessary. Start laying the panels, moving along the lines you marked previously. Always start from one side and move into the center of the room. Most panels come with a tongue and joint feature to facilitate the installation. Using a hammer and a wood block will help you lock them in place.

Step 3: Finish

Keep laying the panels row by row until you have covered all the area. The panels to be used for the last row may have to be cut so they fit in the space left.
