How to Iron a Polo Shirt How to Iron a Polo Shirt

The key to achieving a smooth finish when ironing your polo shirt is to use a continuous sweeping motion over the shirt rather than ironing it part by part as you would a button down. Here’s how.

Setting

Preheat heat your iron to the cotton setting or the high setting.

Polo Shirt Ironing Sequence

First, lay the collar out centered on the ironing board with the collar inside up and iron the inside of the collar to your satisfaction.

Next, lay out your polo shirt with the backside upward on the ironing board, the collar just hanging off the edge away from you, and the sleeves laid out to your left and right. Begin ironing the sleeves from the center toward the cuff. Next iron the back of the shirt starting at the collar and sweeping toward the bottom.

Slide the shirt away from you to finish the bottom portion.

Reposition the shirt with the front side up and the collar just hanging off the edge away from you. Begin with the sleeves and iron them from the center toward the cuff. Next, iron the horse sweeping away from it. Then, iron the shirt starting at the collar and sweeping your way toward the bottom. Finally, shift the shirt away from you and finish up the remainder.
