Velvet is an extremely temperamental fabric. If you use direct heat on the material, you will end up damaging the plush fibers. The best way to get rid of wrinkles is through the use of steam. Here are three different ways you can get rid of wrinkles in velvet

Step 1 – Use a Steamer

The absolute best way to get rid of wrinkles is to use a steamer. Wave the steamer over sections of the material which have wrinkles. This will loosen the fibers and encourage them to flatten out with gravity on your side. You can also use your hands in order to smooth wrinkles out of the material.

Step 2 – Use Your Iron

Though you cannot use your iron to actually iron the fabric, your iron has steam which pours out of it. Turn your iron to the hottest temperature with the steam turned on. Pass the iron in front of the fabric in order to steam it. Many models will come with a steam button to inject extra steam. Use this on difficult patches.

Step 3 – Take a Shower

Hang up the velvet in the bathroom with you while you take a shower. The steam from the shower will permeate the fabric and help to loosen wrinkles. After you dry off, use your hands to smooth out the wrinkles.
