How to Jumpstart an Electric Mini Bike How to Jumpstart an Electric Mini Bike
If you have an electric mini bike with a dead battery, you may be able to jumpstart the bike. Whether your electric mini bike has a electric starter button or a pull starter, you can jumpstart the mini bike. Here is a simple how-to guide that will show you what you need to know. Let's get started.
Step 1 - Remove the Positive Cable from Mini Bike Battery
Use a screwdriver or wrench to remove the positive battery cable from the battery on the electric mini bike. Set the screw or nut aside and simply let the cable lay on the ground next to the bike.
Step 2 - Connect Ground Jumper Cable to Mini Bike
Take one of the clamps attached to the black wire on the jumper cables and attach it to the ground wire on the mini bike. This is usually the black wire that runs from the battery to the engine. You may need to remove the wire from the battery terminal, or you may be able to clamp the jumper cable directly onto the terminal post. Just ensure that there is a good connection between the jumper cable clamp and the grounding wire for the mini bike.
Step 3 - Connect Positive Jumper Cable to the Mini Bike
Attach the clamp for the red jumper cable to the wiring terminal on the positive cable for the mini bike. Again, you can allow the cable to simply sit on the ground while you finish making the other connections.
Step 4 - Connect Negative Jumper Cable to the Car
Attach the other end of the black jumper cable to the negative terminal post on your car battery. However, do not attach the positive cable to the battery post at this time.
Step 5 - Make Sure the Switch is On
If your mini bike is equipped with an electric starter switch, ensure that it is set to the on position. If your mini bike has a pull starter cord like a lawnmower, you don't need to worry about this step and can simply go on to the next one.
Step 6 - Jumpstart the Mini Bike
In order to jumpstart the mini bike, you now simply need to touch the clamp for the positive end of the jumper cable to the terminal post on your car battery. Don't clamp the cable onto the post, but rather simply touch the clamp to the terminal post so that it provides current to the mini bike. As soon as you touch the clamp to the battery post, the mini bike should start.
(Note - When jump starting the mini bike do not start your car engine. This will cause a power surge that may damage the battery and engine in the mini bike. Using this method, you are simply using the cold 12 volt output produced by the car battery when the vehicle is not running.)
Step 7 - Remove the Jumper Cables
Once the mini bike has been started, remove the jumper cables and reconnect the terminal wires to the mini bike battery.
