Chipmunks are a pest which can harmfully affect gardens throughout the country. Learning how to control the problem humanely is something that many householders will want to know.
Traps and Poison
Some people may resort to using traps to deal with the chipmunk problem, however this isn't normally the best course of action. Traps should only be used if the animals are actually living in or entering a house. You should not use poison as it can easily enter the food chain.
More people will be interested in humane options of pest control. This involves deterring the chipmunks and scaring them away rather than killing them. There are actually a number of different ways of doing this.
Chipmunks do not like the smell of garlic, so you can use this to your advantage in 2 ways.
Step 1 - Garlic garden
Plant garlic around your garden
Step 2 - Mixture
Mix a solution of garlic with water, then add to a spray bottle to release the unpleasant smell.
Step 3 - Application
The mixture can be sprayed around the garden to frighten away chipmunks.
Bloodmeal is a type of compost which can be used to deter chipmunks. While this is effective you will have to reapply the bloodmeal everytime it rains.
