How to Lubricate an Analog VU Meter How to Lubricate an Analog VU Meter

What You'll Need
Screw driver (Flat/Phillips)
Paint brush
Lubricating oil (for non plastic mechanical parts)
Silicon oil (for rubber or plastic parts)

VU meter is a device that is used to measure the intensity of a sound. The Analog VU meter was made during the 1930s, intended to regulate the transmissions on the phone lines. It was then adopted as a regular tool in measuring sound in the music industry. The Analog Vu meter contains mechanical parts requiring maintenance or lubrication.

Step 1 – Unscrew the Box

Unscrew the box of the VU meter assembly. Clean off dust using your paint brush. Your VU meter may vary depending on the model and brand so be careful as most parts are delicate.

Step 2 – Lubricate Mechanical Parts

Drop some lubricating oil on the mechanical non-plastic parts. You have to be careful not to over lubricate your Analog VU meter as it may cause problems or even may lead to damage. On rubber or plastic mechanical parts, you may drop silicon oil lubricants to enhance the operating condition of your Analog VU meter.

Step 3 – Reassemble the Box

After you have lubricated the mechanical parts, reassemble the box of your VU meter and tightly return the screws to their appropriate place.
