How to Maintain Granite Bathroom Countertops

Granite bathroom countertops are the look of choice in many homes. Granite is expensive and must be maintained properly to protect your investment and keep it looking its best.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Spray bottle
  • Alcohol
  • Water
  • Sponge
  • Water
  • Soft towel
  • Furniture polish
  • Baking soda
  • Dishwashing liquid

Step 1 - Keep them Clean

The most important part of maintaining your bathroom granite countertops is to keep them clean. Wash them off regularly with a wet sponge that has a drop or two of dishwashing liquid added to it. Dry them with a soft towel until they are dry. Always clean up spills immediately to avoid stains.

Step 2 - Removing Stains

If you happen to get a stain on your granite countertop and the above method doesn't remove it, wet a sponge and put on a bit of baking soda to rub the stain away. Do not use scouring powder or steel wool as it will permanently damage the granite.

Step 3 - Polishing the Granite Countertop

Mix 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of alcohol and a drop of dishwashing detergent in a spray bottle. Spray it onto clean granite and buff dry with a soft cloth.

Some people also have good success with using furniture polish on the countertops. Apply the furniture polish only after the top has been thoroughly cleaned. Apply as you would to wood furniture.
