How to Make a Bamboo Headboard
The use of headboards has always been popular. Since they add more style to the bedroom many people are opting to have headboards installed if one is absent. There are many materials that can be used to create a headboard. From different fabrics to different kinds of wood, people have the ability to make their headboards unique. A popular type of headboard these days is the bamboo headboard. The reason why bamboo is gaining quite the popularity is because it is considered a renewable resource. The growth rate of bamboo production is also one of the biggest and most fast paced among industries.
Another reason why bamboo is a popular material for headboards is because it is eco-friendly. It does not pose any harmful effects both to humans and the natural environment. Once highly polished and crafted, bamboo headboards can be considered as one of the most striking and elegant headboard finishes today. The following procedures provide a step by step guide on how to build a bamboo headboard.
Step 1: Get Bamboo Canes
Bamboo cane selection is important when making headboards. There are many online merchants and local suppliers offering bamboo canes for headboard making. These providers also offer assistance and other customer related services for convenience. The desired size of the bamboo headboard determines the number of bamboo poles or canes needed.
Step 2: Work on the Poles
It is necessary to cover the part of the bamboo that is to be cut. Using a masking tape, the bamboo pole should be covered properly. The masking tape will prevent splintering. This will also prevent unnecessary accidents. The poles should be cut according to the height specified on the plan for the headboard. To create a more striking design, try playing with the widths and heights and of the bamboo cane. The canes may be cut in alternating lengths and widths to create a more dramatic effect. For a more simple and elegant approach match each height and width accordingly.
Step 3: Position the Bamboo Poles
In order to properly structure the bamboo poles, place them together on a flat surface. Once all poles are laid down properly, each pole may now be further cut or trimmed. Cut twine measuring about 2 feet in length. For each bamboo cane there should be two pieces of twine. You can also use other things such as string, silk scarves or rope. The material depends on the desired appearance of the headboard.
Step 4: Tying the Poles
One piece of twine should be placed a good distance from the top of the cane. Usually it’s around one third of the pole’s measure. Try to make a figure eight and then tie the bamboo poles that are adjacent to each other. Tie a knot and make sure that the twine is holding each pole in each place. Do this for the rest of the bamboo poles until the desired width is achieved. For added design, the poles may be tied in different ways.
Step 5: Attach the Headboard
Install hooks onto the wall and attach the newly completed bamboo headboard.
