How to Make a Child's Rocking Chair Cushion

A wooden child's rocking chair is a great piece of furniture to add to a living room or to a young person's bedroom. However, many rocking chairs are uncomfortable. Enhance the comfort of your child's rocking chair by making a cushion for the seat.

Collecting Materials

Begin by collecting adequate cloth in squares the size of the seat and in two strips that are at least twice as long as the width of the chair seat. Also collect a newspaper and cord, pins and a sewing machine.

Use the newspaper as a template for the seat size, and cut the square pieces to match the size and shape of the newspaper. Sew a cord around the edge of the square pieces to serve as the binding for the cushion. Next, stuff the cushion with any type of soft fabric or other stuffing material, then sew the remaining square piece to the other side of the cord to complete the cushion base.

Alternately, you can purchase an inexpensive cushion making kit from an arts and crafts store near you. Be sure to carefully measure the size of the seat before you begin your project so that your cushion is the right size.
