If you are into the grunge or retro look, you may want to make a hat look old and worn. This is easy and fun to do.
Step 1 - Fade the Hat
You can fade a cloth hat, such as a baseball hat, quickly. Mix ¼ cup of bleach with a couple of cups of warm water. Spray this onto the hat until it is wet but not dripping. Be careful not to get this mixture on your clothing, as it will fade it or create white spots. Keep an eye on the hat, and when it has reached the color you want, rinse it thoroughly under running cold water. Allow it to dry.
Step 2 - Distress the Hat
To give the hat an even more worn look, you need to distress it a bit. Use the sandpaper to sand the edges of the bill of the hat if it is a baseball or similar hat. Sanding will work on any fabric hat. Do this on areas that would receive the most natural wear. You can also use the scissors to punch a small hole in the hat and then pick at the edges of the fabric until it frays.
