A fifth wheel camper hitch cover is necessary, to keep the hitch in good condition, and protect it from the elements. Covers are available to buy in specialized shops, but you can make you own if you are a little more creative.
Tools and Materials:
- Tape Measure
- Waterproofing Spray
- Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brush
Step 1 – Take Measurements
Using a tape measure, measure the size of the hitch, and add an extra couple of inches before noting them down. Take these measurements to a fabric store and request this length of canvas.
Step 2 – Decorate the Canvas
The perk of making your own cover for a fifth wheel hitch is that you can customise it with your own design, while shops have a limited range. Acrylic paint is the best to use on canvas and using a paint brush, you can let your creative flair go wild.
Step 3 – Waterproof it
To prevent your new design from getting damaged in the rain or getting soiled with mud, waterproof it. Make sure you use the waterproof spray in a well-ventilated area and follow the instructions on the can.
Step 4 – Securing the Canvas
Place the canvas over the hitch and cut 4 holes into the canvas. Thread a rope through 2 of the holes and tie it securely to keep the canvas in place. Do the same with the second rope for extra security of the hitch cover.
