Whether you want to keep water from entering your RV’s interior or ensure that the roof of your RV has proper ventilation, RV vents should have appropriate covers. Although ready-to-install covers can be purchased from RV shops, learning how to make a cover for your RV vents will give you much satisfaction.
- Screw driver
- Tape measure
- Preferred vent cover material
Step 1 – Get The Right Measurements
Create a vent cover that will fit into your vent perfectly. To do this, get the width and height of your existing vent using a tape measure. Add an extra half to one inch to the measurements to ensure that the vent is fully covered.
Step 2 – Prepare the Cover Material
Vent covers can be made of wood, metal or plastic. Most often, vent cover materials should go well with the interior design of the RV. Cut the material based on the measurements of the vent. You should be creating a box-type structure and the sides should be elevated rather than flat.
Step 3 – Installation Of The Vent Cover
Mount the cover on the sides of the vent. Use a drill to make a small hole in the cover, then put in a screw to fasten the cover in place by driving the screw deep into the vent frame. You can also fasten the other side of the cover but you may remove the screw so the vent cover will not completely cover the vent. You can however screw both sides if necessary, especially during winter.
