Making a decorative wall panel can be the key to a great-looking home. Anyone can accomplish this task with a little bit of effort and skill. For years people have been making their own wall paneling to fit their style. People can also save money by doing the job themselves without having the hassle of dealing with decorators or designers who sometimes come up with their own concept of style which is not yours.

Step 1- Researching

Buy various books that deal in home decorating. Look at the many designs that are offered to the consumer. Get different ideas from neighbors and friends before making final purchase of the fabric. It is also a great idea to look at other friends' homes to see their brand of style if they have the same tastes as you.

Step 2 - Measuring

Take your measuring tape and measure the walls in your home. Make sure that you will have the right length of panel to make a perfect fit. The panel will most likely be cut later on but it is very important that the right amount is purchased.

Step 3 - Purchasing

Buy fabric that has straight patterns and make sure that the fabric is to your taste. The fabric will also come in a variety of colors so it is important that they match the room that they will be added to. Also try to find fabric at affordable prices since they will more than likely change in time and the expense should be minimal.

Step 4 - Setup

Place the artist canvas face down on the material. After this the left edge of the material will be folded over the end of the canvas. Once this is done the material will be stapled. Make sure to staple it at the center of the edge. The right side willl be pulled up tight from under the artist canvas and then stapled. Then the top edge of the material will be pulled to the center edge and also stapled to the center.

Step 5 - Checking

Hold the canvas up and check to see that there are no wrinkles to be seen. Smooth out wrinkles by stretching the fabric more tightly. In some cases the only way to remove the wrinkles from the material is to unstaple it and start the job over again. Also humid temperatures may cause the fabric to wrinkle and in this case it is best to prepare the paneling in a cool place.

Step 6 - Hanging

Hang up the new wall panel in a room of your choice or in various locations throughout the home. Check to see that the surfaces on which they will be hanged have been properly fitted with adhesive. Make sure to follow the guidelines for hanging the panel. This information can be obtained from retailers or other resources. Be sure that the right tools are used when hanging the decorative wall panels. After the panels are hung they are sure to give a great look to the home.
