How to Make a Hat Veil

What You'll Need
Net veiling (1/2 yard)
Stick pins
Spray starch
Steam iron
Sewing needle
Ribbon (1/2 yard)
Fabric glue

To make a vintage hat, or even a new hat more interesting, make a hat veil which will give it a personal touch that is very classy, and also very easy to do.

Step 1 - Prepare Veiling

Take the net veiling and pinch one end together. Attach it to the hat at the crown. Try the hat on to see how long and wide you want the veil. Take your scissors and trim the veiling. Remove the veiling and spray it well with spray starch for stiffness. Iron the veiling on a low warm setting, and then let it completely dry.

Step 2 - Apply the Veiling

Gather the ends together again and pin back onto the hat. Using a needle and thread, sew the veiling on from the inside so you don't have stitches showing on the outside of your hat. Take a button, and sew it on the hat over the area where it was stitched on. Last, for an extra punch, glue ribbon along the bottom of the veiling. Allow the glue to dry completely before wearing.
