A PEX tube uncoiler is basically a type of a mechanism that is made to hold coil. It will unwind it gradually during press operations. You will find that making one yourself will ensure that you have one that will fit your needs specifically. This is something that can be done several different ways using several different types of tools depending on how you make it. A PEX tube uncoiler is something that is not very easy to find yourself. However, making one will be able to save you money and is not very difficult to do at all.
Step 1 – Prepare
The first thing that you are going to need to do is decide what type of material that you wish to use for this task. You will be able to use scrap metal with your PEX tubing or wood. Whichever you prefer, you will need to decide from there and then get the necessary supplies so that you can begin your task. Make sure that you take the proper measurements so that you will know exactly how big you will need the uncoiler to be. You will also be able to know how much you will need of your materials.
Step 2 – Wood
If you decide to make the uncoiler out of wood, then you will need to get your sheet of plywood and measure out how big you will need it to be. Once you have it measured and cut to the size it needs to be, you will need to get a lazy Susan between them to bear it. A 5 gallon bucket will then need to be screwed into the middle of the top wheel. This will be your center post.
Step 3 – Pipe Clamp
You will need to get a pipe clamp that is ¾ inch and 3 feet long. From there, a 2 by 4 stud will need to be clamped on. This will help with the stud cavity. The pipe itself will need to be covered with the pipe clamp. You will use PVC that is 1 1/2 inches so that it can protect the PEX whenever it unrolls. You will pull out the amount that you will need. If the foot coil that you get happens to be too heavy, then you will need to get the outer end supported using an additional pipe clamp.
Step 4 – Axle
You are going to need to have an axle for your PEX coil so that it will have something to revolve around as you pull on it. You will be able to do this by using a clamp that spans along 2 studs. You will need to make sure that the studs will be able to keep your coil in your stud cavity.
Step 5 - Consideration
It is good to have someone help you with this task as these materials can be heavy and awkward to carry by yourself.
