How to Make a Pom Pom Christmas Wreath with Yarn Scraps

If you need a new Christmas wreath for your door, and just happen to have a lot of yarn scraps, you can make a pom pom Christmas wreath. Even your children can join in this activity. Its an easy to do project that takes a minimum of talent and supplies.

You Will Need

  • Scraps of Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Styrofoam wreath base
  • Cardboard cut in 4 inch square
  • Hot glue gun
  • Straight pins

Step 1: Make the Pom Poms

Use your 4 inch cardboard square as your tool to wind yarn upon for the pom poms. Put the edge of the yarn on the cardboard square and hold it down with your thumb. Start to wind yarn around the cardboard being careful to not stretch it too tight. Wind until it is very thick, usually about 100 times around at the least. Slide the yarn off the cardboard form, and tie it tightly in the middle to secure it. Then cut the loops on each end and fluff up. This creates one pom pom. Continue making these until you have enough to densely cover your wreath base.

Step 2: Make the Wreath

Plug in your glue gun and let it warm up. Don't let children use a glue gun. Put a small amount of glue on the base and press a pom pom into it. Secure it tightly by pushing a straight pin through it and the glue and into the styrofoam. Continue around the base until it is fully covered.
