A folding clothes line is a simple alternative to hanging up a bulking line in your backyard. Folding poles will allow you to collapse the line and enjoy the view when it's not in use. Making your own folding poles isn't difficult. You just need a few tools a little bit of time.
Step 1 - Purchase the Poles
For this project you will need 4 poles, each 3 feet in length. Aluminum works well for this project because it's easy to work with and light weight. If you want a sturdier pole you can look at a stronger material, but this will require welding knowledge.
Step 2 - Add the Hinges
You will want to use the hinges to connect 2 poles together. The hinges will need to be large folding hinges that can support both the weight of the pole and the articles of clothing you will place on the line. The hinges can be attached using a standard drill.
Step 3 - Install the Poles
Now that both sides are complete you can install them as you normally would. If you are using a base in the ground you can secure the poles to the base. Hang your line between the poles, and you're ready to start hanging clothes.
