How to Make Lampe Berger Oil

While a Lampe Berger lamp can be a great way to apply fragrance to your air, the unfortunate truth is that there are many reasons to be dissatisfied with pre-packaged oils. Paying a lot of money for brand name oil can definitely be a frustrating experience for many people, not to mention that official fragrance oils come in a limited selection, leaving people who want custom scents with few options. However, making your own fragrance oils for your lamp is an easy project that you can do in almost no time at all. What follows should give you enough information to get started.

Step 1 - Pick a Fragrance

Before you even start to mix your oil, you will need to select your materials. Tracking down isopropyl alcohol is easy enough, as you can find it at any local drug store. Fragrance oil, however, is more open-ended. Any essential oil or fragrance oil will work just fine for this project, and because of this, you are free to experiment. If you have a favorite fragrance, go ahead and use it. There is also nothing stopping you from trying out new fragrances for this project.

Step 2 - Mixing the Oil

While an exact measurement is not necessary, you will need roughly 16 ounces of isopropyl alcohol. Since isopropyl alcohol normally comes in 16-ounce bottles, getting the amount you need is usually simple. Get out your eye dropper and add roughly 10 drops of oil to your bottle. By doing this, you will get the right proportions of both ingredients. If you want to, you can use multiple fragrance oils of different types to get a custom scent, but do not increase the total number of drops you add.

Once you have done this, close the bottle and make sure the cap is on tight. Mix the ingredients together by shaking the bottle thoroughly.

If your isopropyl alcohol did not come in a 16-ounce bottle, you will need to measure out 16 ounces into a sealable container, and then add the oil in the correct proportion. Again, seal the container and shake it to mix the oil and alcohol.

Step 3 - Using the Oil

You can use this Lampe Berger oil normally with your lamp, getting the same effect as the name brand while saving money and giving yourself the freedom of custom scents.

Step 4 - Storing the Oil

If you are planning to use the oil you have just mixed immediately, you may do so. However, when you are done—or if you are planning to wait before using it—you should pour it into small, separate airtight containers. Any small plastic containers that can be sealed will do, so long as you’re sure it won’t leak. Store your scented oil in a cool place until you want to use it again.
