How to Make Roll-Out Drawers for a Kitchen Pantry Cabinet How to Make Roll-Out Drawers for a Kitchen Pantry Cabinet
A good kitchen pantry cabinet will have roll-out drawers that can be used to store a variety of different foods and other goods. By having roll out drawers, you not only make the process of picking food out of the pantry much easier on you and those in your family or household, but you also allow for a greater amount of storage space in the cabinets themselves. In order to make a high quality and professional type cabinet with roll out drawers in your kitchen, follow these easy steps.
Step 1 - Measure the Drawer Space and Cut the Sides
Use your tape measure to take stock of the width of the drawer space in your cabinet. You should then subtract that width by about 3 inches and cut the thinner plywood into sheets of that width. They should be about 22 inches deep or so. These plywood pieces need to have 2 for each drawer space, as they'll form the sides of the cabinet drawers.
Step 2 - Measure the Drawer Space and Cut the Base
Measure the space along the front end of the drawer. This will serve as the other measurement that you'll need in order to properly cut out the larger plywood into pieces that are suitable for the drawer base. Use this plywood because it is sturdier, and be sure to take off about three inches (or however much you took off) from the drawer sides as well.
Step 3 - Measure Out and Cut Carrier Pieces
Use the smaller piece of plywood to create carrier pieces for the mounted slide. You'll need to measure the sliding system against the sides of the drawer space in the cabinet in order to figure out how large the carrier pieces should be; they should add up to the total length when combined with the sliding system. Cut the carrier pieces and sand them down.
Step 4 - Mount the Sliding System in Place
Use the drill and drill bits to mount the sliding system and carrier pieces in place on the cabinet sides. Make sure that they're secure enough to support the weight of the full drawer and the items in it.
Step 5 - Build the Drawer
Build the drawer to be sure that it fits in with the sliding system. Use the hammer and nails to put it all together.Be sure that the drawer fits into place before you finish it up with wood glue. If you wish, you can stain or lacquer the drawer to add color and to protect it.
