Materials Needed:
Fabric
Marker
Scissors
Needle
Thread
Cotton
Cardstock
Iron
Fusible Interfacing
Measuring Tape
Glue
Step 1 – Body
The first thing that you are going to have to do for your Victorian doll is make the body. You will need to first pick out the necessary fabric that you want her body to be. Once you have the fabric picked out, you will need to draw out a sketch of her on the fabric. You want the marker to be seen by you but it will need to be a light colored one so it does not bleed through. It is a good idea to leave around ¼ an inch of the cloth that you plan to sew.
Step 2 – Cut
You’ll begin by cutting out the figures out of the drawing that you made. Make sure that you have everything that you need out of the figure before you are finished cutting.
Step 3 – Sew
You will begin by getting the 2 pieces that you cut out sewn together. They will need to be sewn together inside out when you begin. You will need to have a hole left to stuff. You will use this hole to turn your doll body back inside out. This will keep the stitches hidden.
Step 4 – Stuff
You are now ready to stuff the body of the doll. Do this slowly so that you do not overstuff her. It can be a hassle to remove any stuffing that is already in there. Add little by little until you have her the right size. Once you have her stuffed properly you can add the head and the hands and feet.
Step 5 - Hat
Once you have the body of the doll you will need to make her a proper hat so that she can easily be recognized as a Victorian doll. You will begin by getting 3 pieces of cardstock laid onto fusible interfacing. There will need to be copies cut that are identical to your interfacing. Make sure that you have the cardstock and the interfacing ironed together.
Step 6 – Iron
The paper from the interfacing now needs to be peeled off from the hat pieces. You will need to lay them down on the wrong side of the fabric of the hat. From there, iron the pieces together.
Step 7 – Measure
Measurements of 1/8 an inch need to be taken around the outer parts of the cardstock pieces. Cut along the lines. Fold the extra fabric over and glue the bottom edge. You are ready to add trim and customize your Victorian hat.
