How to Make Wooden Hangers How to Make Wooden Hangers

What You'll Need
Wire coat hanger
Bandsaw (or jigsaw)
1-inch thick wood
Brass or fancy screw in hook
Drill and small bit
Metal hook

A wooden hanger is generally better for garments than a wire hanger. You can even custom make them with just the right curve for your clothes. Here are 5 steps you can use to make yours.

Step 1 – Make a Template

Lay a wire hanger on a 1-inch piece of flat wood. Use a pencil to make a mark at each end of the hanger. Make a slightly curved line from one mark to the other.

Step 2 – Cut Out the Template

Use a jigsaw or band saw to cut out the template you just made, leaving a curved piece of wood 1-inch thick.

Step 3 -  Round the Edges

With a router, round the edges of the curved piece you made. Finish smoothing the edges with sandpaper.

Step 4 – Attach the Metal Hook

In the middle of the curved wood piece, and at the top of the curve, drill a hole with a bit that is smaller than the diameter of the metal hook. Then screw the hook into the hole you drilled.

Step 5 – Finish

Finally, varnish or paint your finished hanger.
