How to Measure and Cut Stair Trim Molding

Installing stair trim molding is an essential part of installing for stairs. In order to properly install it, you are going to have to cut it correctly. Here are the basics of how to measure and cut stair trim molding properly.

Measure the Opening

The first thing that you will need to do is measure the opening where the stair trim will be added. This could be in a doorway that leads to a set of stairs, or it could be on the actual staircase. Measure from one side of the wall to the other. Be sure to be as accurate as possible when you measure. Measure down to the smallest unit possible so that you are precise.

Mark the Stair Trim

Once you have the measurement that you need to make your cut, measure that distance on the stair trim. Use a pencil to mark the back of the stair trim where you need to cut it at.

Make the Cut

The best way to make this type of a cut is with a table saw. This way, you can balance the stair trim perfectly on the table and then run the blade down through it quickly.
