When you are installing a new bathtub surround, you want to make sure that you are getting the measurements just right. If you are tiling, and you don't measure it correctly, you can end up with big problems. Thankfully, there is a simple way to get the measurements.
Step 1 - Decide What Is Going There
You will want to make sure that the tub is already installed before you begin the measurements. Also, decide on the type of material you are going to use. Most people have a solid one piece surround, or the other popular style is tiling.
Step 2 - Take the Measurements
You need to start with the top of the tub and measure the width of the tub from one end to the other. The next measurement you will need is from the top of the tub to the ceiling. If you do not want to go all the way up, although most people do, the minimum height you will want to go is about 70 inches.
Step 3- Do the Math
If you are using one solid piece of material, then all you have to do is multiply length times height. If you are tiling, though, you will want to compare the size of the tiles to figure out how many you will need.
Measuring the tub space sounds like a lot of work, but really it isn't too bad. After you're done, you will have a nice relaxing place to soak away your worries.
