Concrete is dull and dreary but can be changed with concrete paint. Painting concrete is neither new nor difficult to do but concrete paint is formulated differently. Concrete paint has to be able to withstand the elements and traffic plus be able to adhere to the smooth surface that is concrete. You can create special colors by mixing concrete paint yourself and this article will show you how.

Step 1 - Choosing the Right Concrete Paint

When you want to mix concrete paint you need to make sure you choose the right paint. It should be paint that is meant for concrete. You should choose the same brand as certain paint can be manufactured differently.

Step 2 - Base Color

Begin with the main color you wish to tint. White concrete paint is easier to tint than darker colors but you can create shades. Adding white to dark paint will lighten the shade. Darker paint will darken the shade.

Step 3 - Tinting and Mixing

Add a very small amount of your tinting paint to the base. Attach the mixer to the drill and mix the paint until combined. Gradually add paint and mix until the desired shade is reached.
