A possible way of giving a fresh look to your car is, by getting the car bumper painted. However, it is necessary to take proper precautions and steps to get that improved look. When painting a car bumper, you will need a workspace with minimal dust, good ventilation and good lighting. You need to sand, prime and then finally paint the bumper.

Safety Precautions

While painting the bumper of your car, use the following safety equipment:

  • Respirator
  • Hat or hair net
  • Paint suit
  • Face mask

Preparing the Paint

You will need to mix single primer and thinner to start the process of painting. It is recommended to prepare a mixture of half thinner and half primer. Use a reducer with the paint for optimum results. Stir the mixture thoroughly and add the mixture to a paint gun. Make use of a strainer, to keep the paint gun dust free.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1 – Detach the Bumper

Detach the bumper from the car. This would help you in preventing accidental painting of other parts of the car. Also, it leads to reduction of the bleeding over of the paint.

    Step 2- Suspend the Bumper

Suspend the bumper to the ceiling with help of wires or ropes. Ensuring that the bumper is hung evenly reduces the risk of running paint marks.

Step 3 - Clean the Bumper

Clean the bumper thoroughly. Painting a dirt bumper usually leaves a slipshod mark.

Step 4 – Dry the Bumper

Dry thoroughly the surface of the bumper. This reduces the running of the paint and increases its durability.

          Step 5- Paint the Surface

Paint the entire surface gently and sometimes spraying the paint. Care needs to be taken that no surface of the car bumper is thickly coated.

Step 6 – Remove the Bumper from Suspension

Dry the car bumper adequately and finally remove it from the suspension. Not drying the bumper completely may leave scratches or fingerprint marks on the bumper.
