How to Paint a Wooden Coffee Table

Painting a wooden coffee table is a way to give your old table a new lively look. There are many colors and styles to choose from. The key is to use the right paint and the right painting techniques for a perfect surface. The tools and instructions for this project are listed below.

Step 1 – Prepping the Table

Lay a drop cloth down before working. Wipe the table off with a damp cloth. 

Step 2 – Sanding the Surface

Sand the wooden coffee table (if needed) to smooth and prepare it to be painted. Wipe table to remove dust from sand paper.

Step 3 – Priming the Table Surface

Use a dark stain or wood primer to prime the table. Apply the primer in even strokes to ensure an even surface for painting.

Step 4 – Paint the Wooden Coffee Table

Apply a coat of the paint color of your choice to the table surface. Once the first coat is completely dry, apply another. You may need to apply more coats depending on the type of paint product. Let the coffee table dry completely before using it.
