Painting brick paneling is a good alternative to replacing it. It is a cheaper and faster way of giving your home a new look.
Step 1 - Prepare
It is important that the area that is to be primed and painted is clean. Wash the walls using water and around 1/2 cup of the mild detergent. Use the toothbrush to clean out loose dirt from crevices. Once complete, rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
Step 2 - Protect Surfaces
Position the drop cloths to catch spillages, and tape off areas that are not to be painted using the masking tape.
Step 3 - Primer
Using a clean paint brush, apply a coat of primer to the walls ensuring the entire area is covered. Use a large paint brush for the bricks and a small one for the grooves in between them. Allow to dry completely. If the brick paneling is a dark color, you may want to add another coat.
Step 4 - Paint
Repeat step 3 but use paint. You will probably require at least two coats to complete the job. Again, allow the paint to dry completely between coats.
Step 5 - Finishing
Once the final coat has dried completely, using a utility knife cut away the masking tape and carefully peel it off the wall. Be careful not to disturb the fresh paint.
Tidy and clean all equipment, and admire your home's new look.
