How to Paint Engraved Glass

What You'll Need
Acrylic glass paint
Small paintbrush set
Water basin
Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover

Engraved glass is a beautiful addition to any home, but sometimes it needs a splash of color to really come alive. You can paint your engraved glass by following these steps.

Step 1 - Select Your Paints

Your local art supply store will sell a variety of glass paints, so you should know what look you are trying to achieve. Opaque paints create a more clear and striking design, while transparent paints create more of a classic "stained glass" look. Some glass paints require baking to dry, so if that is not an option for your engraved surface, make sure to choose air-drying paints.

Step 2 - Clean Your Engraved Glass

Clean your engraved glass thoroughly with water and a washcloth. You can apply additional glass cleaner at your discretion.

Step 3 - Paint Your Design Lightly

Paint your design lightly onto the glass. Allow time for your work to dry.

Step 4 - Mind Your Mistakes

Examine your preparatory painting closely. Keep your eyes peeled for any mistakes. Use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to scrape away any unsatisfactory painting; then repaint as desired and allow your work to dry again.

Step 5 - Add the Finishing Touches

Add your final coat and take care to cover the engraving evenly.
